SACRAMENTO COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY PRESERVATION AWARD
The Sacramento County Historical Society Awards Dinner this year’s dinner is scheduled for Tuesday, March 25 and will be held at the Dante Club. SOCA members can buy tickets for the $40 member price, non-members pay $50 for dinner (prime rib, Mediterranean chicken or spinach ravioli.)
Every year, Sacramento County Historical Society asks SOCA to select a Preservation Award winner for their annual Awards Dinner. This year’s selection is Arthur Henry’s Supper Club and Ruby Room, located at 3406 Broadway, a restoration of a 1910 Mission Revival commercial building. The former home of Arata Bros. Grocery and the Swiss Club also had four upstairs apartments on the second story, which have been restored to residential use.
After dinner, SCHS will present their awards for education, preservation and publication, and the President’s Award. Following the awards is “A Sacramento Burlesque,” a presentation on the history of Sacramento’s burlesque clubs in the 1920s, 1940s and 1960s. Each portion of the presentation is accompanied by a live performance by the “Bodacious Bombshells,” a Sacramento-based neo-burlesque troupe, using authentic music and costumes from each respective era. Tickets are available online at sacramentoburlesque.brownpapertickets.com and must be purchased by March 18!
